Foreign media attention: China ranks first in the world with more than 600 million people vaccinated

According to a Reuters report on June 11, the speed of the new crown vaccination in the post-epidemic era is an important factor in deciding whether to win the opportunity in all aspects. China has received a total of 845 million doses of the new crown vaccine, covering 622 million people, ranking first in the world in terms of the number of doses and the number of people covered.

According to the report, China has approved the expansion of the age range for emergency use of the new crown vaccine to over 3 years old, clarifying that the new crown vaccine developed by Sinopharm Beijing Institute of Biology and Beijing Kexing Zhongwei Company can be used for people aged 3 to 17. Speeding up vaccination is the most effective way to prevent the import and spread of the epidemic.

Feng Zijian, a researcher at the China Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said at a press conference on the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council on Friday that domestically transmitted epidemics have occurred in many places in China, but traceability investigations show that these local epidemics are related to imported cases and imported goods. In relation to this, this shows that China’s current risk is still imported from abroad, "still in the normalized prevention and control stage of external defense imports and internal defense rebounds."

The report pointed out that expanding the age range for emergency use of vaccines to over 3 years old is an important measure to comprehensively improve vaccination coverage.

Cui Gang, the second-level inspector of the CDC of the National Health and Medical Commission, said that the current inoculation work in various places is organized and implemented in accordance with the principles of exhaustive response, cascading advancement, highlighting key points, ensuring safety and various groups of people in an orderly manner. At present, based on the characteristics of prevention and control work, two key points are highlighted: one is key areas; the other is key populations.

Cui Gang said that as of the 10th, 845 million doses have been vaccinated nationwide, covering 622 million people. China ranks first in the world in terms of doses and the number of people covered.

The report emphasized that although China was the first country to withdraw from the epidemic, scattered epidemics still appeared from time to time in the follow-up, which shows that the pressure of foreign defense imports is still not light.

Wang Huaqing, chief expert of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s immunization program, said: “The most important thing is to establish a herd immunity barrier to eliminate the immune gap.” He mentioned that if three doses of vaccination or follow-up booster immunization are carried out, the safety must be evaluated. Only after obtaining sufficient evidence, can we decide whether to boost the immunization. So there is still a lot of research to be completed.
