10 unexpected EuroCup results

The 60-year history of Euro Cup football has seen many amazing results. Whether it's Denmark and Greece winning the title or Iceland's unexpected trip to the quarterfinals, many are stunned

Today we are discussing 10 unexpected results of Euro Cup football. Very few expected such a result before the game. The weakest teams have won 29 percent of the games played so far in the Euro Cup. The latest example is the Euro 2016 final. Portugal beat France at home. The list of the most unexpected results of the Eurocup is as follows:

1) England 0–1 Yugoslavia, Euro 1968

This is the result of the Euro 1968 semi-final game. It was only two years since England had won the World Cup. Before the game, only 21.9 percent estimated that Yugoslavia would win the game. However, Yugoslavia jokingly taught Inlis coach Alf Ramsey's team that football is not played on paper. Dragon Jazic's goal in the 86th minute was enough to defeat a team full of stars like Bobby Moore, Bobby Charlton, Gordon Banks and Geoff Hurst.

2) Germany 0–1 Spain, Euro 1984

Germany needed just one point to reach the semi-finals of the Euro 1984 group stage. And, when he faced Spain, many expected Germany to reach the semifinals easily. Only 21.7 percent said Spain would win the game. With no goals scored until the last minute of the game, Germany almost reached the semi-finals. However, in the 90th minute, Antonio Maseda scored the decisive goal from Spain to show Germany the way home. Reaching the semi-finals as the group winner, Spain lost to France in the final.

3) Portugal 1-2 Greece - Euro 2004, group stage

No one will forget this miraculous spring in Greece. That same year, Greece stunned the world by winning the Euro Cup. When Greece and Portugal competed in the final, only 24.5 percent predicted that Greece would win. Which Greece proved wrong.

But we are now discussing the group stage. As they were in the same group, there was competition between Portugal and Greece in the initial stage. At the time, many speculated that Portugal would beat Greece by a large margin. Greece had a 21.4 percent chance of winning. However, Giorgios Caragunis and Angelos Basinas scored to give Greece a 2-0 lead. Portugal could not equalize after Cristiano Ronaldo returned a goal towards the end of the game.

4) Ukraine 0-2 Northern Ireland, Euro 2016, group stage

Only 21.3 percent expected Northern Ireland to win the game. However, Macaulay and Niall McGuinn scored to give Northern Ireland a 2-0 victory. It was the first time Northern Ireland had won a major tournament since 1982. The same victory in the group stage was enough for the team under Michael O'Neill to reach the knockout stage.

5) CIS 0–3 Scotland - Euro 1992, group stage

Scotland had a 21.2 chance of winning the game. 'When you go to the park today. "Then they will be doing what no Stocks player has ever been able to do," Scotland's then head coach Andy Roxburgh told the players before the game. This was Scotland's debut in the Eurocup. The team, which lost to the Netherlands and Germany, was competing in the final after losing all chances of reaching the previous round. But, this game became the most unforgettable for him. In the final match, he defeated the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) 3-0 against the team formed after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Paul McCaste, Brian McClair and McAllister all scored for Scotland.

6) Netherlands 0–1 Denmark, Euro 2012, group stage

"We are a little jealous of the Dutch team because we are not in their place. They are the claimants, no doubt about it, 'said Denmark coach Morten Olsen before the game. Only 19 percent thought Denmark could win the game. Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk also said his team was vying for the title. However, Michael Krone Delhi scored in the first half against the Netherlands, who reached the World Cup final two years ago. However, despite the surprising results, Denmark failed to reach the knockout stage.

7) Belgium 0–2 Turkey, Euro 2000, group stage

Turkey's chances of winning the game were 19.7. However, the result went 2-0 in favor of Turkey. "This is a great gift for the whole of Turkey," said Turkish coach Mustafa Denizli after the game. "It is a great achievement in the 77-year history of Turkish football."

Sukar scored both goals for Turkey. With this victory, Turkey made it to the knockout stage of the Euro Cup.

8) Belgium 1-3 Wales, Euro 2016, quarterfinals

Wales had a 19.6 percent chance of winning the game. "If I were president of a club in the Premier League, I would be associated with Hall Robson Kanu," Wales forward John Hartson said after the game. Robson had a great goal. Wales won the game by one goal to reach the semi-finals of the Eternal Championship.

9) France 0-1 Greece, Euro 2004, quarterfinals

Greece's performance in every Euro 2004 game was incredible. Greece had a 19.1 percent chance of winning the quarterfinals against defending champions France. However, the team coached by Otto Rehagal came to win the title. Christie's scored a header in the second half against a team of stars such as Zinedine Zidane, Robert Perez and Thierry Henry. Greece defeated Czech Republic 1-0 in the semifinals and Portugal won the title 1-0 in the final.

10) England 1-2 Iceland, Euro 2016, last 16

"The rest of the world didn't, but we had faith," said defender Carrie Arnason after the game. More than 83 per cent had analyzed that England would win the game. But reversing the 1-0 deficit, Iceland made history by reaching the quarterfinals with a 2-1 victory. Wayne Rooney gave England the lead in the fourth minute of the game. However, Ragnar Sigurdsson equalized for Iceland and Colbine Sigurdsson scored the decisive goal. Following the game, Iceland's bravery was praised and the Inlis team was heavily criticized. England coach Roy Hudson has resigned.
